Company Policy
General National Maritime Transport Company (GNMTC) (the Company) is committed to meeting the quality requirements of its clients by:
ensuring that its services meet the customer/client requirements in the Safety, Environmental , Quality , and health (SQE) Management system; and maintaining and continuously improving the Company’s Safety, Environmental ,Quality, Management (SEQ) system.
GNMTC will conduct its business affairs in a safe, efficient and reputable manner in the best interests of its clients, the employees of the Company and the environment. In offering its services, the Company shall not knowingly participate in any unsafe or illegal activity and recognizes the importance of implementing proper standards of performance, to meet industrial requirements.
Safety & Environmental Performance Policy
The Company recognizes that the operation of vessels in its managed fleet involves a risk to the health and safety of its employees, to third parties and to the environment. The Company is responsible for minimizing such risks by:
- Conducting its business affairs in such a way that all decision-making takes full account of safe vessel operations;
- Ensuring that managed vessels are operated in accordance with national and international maritime legislation regarding safety and environmental protection measures;
- Employing competent personnel who are able to effectively supervise and carry out safety and environmental protection as defined in the operating procedures approved by senior management;
- Providing suitable training of personnel to facilitate effective employment of the operating procedures;
- Monitoring the effectiveness of shipboard safety and environmental performance and related procedures;
- Emphasizing the goal of zero accident and zero pollution through prevention measures such as conducting investigations of shipboard accidents/incidents and use the results to prevent recurrence;
- Maintaining emergency plans to be employed in the event of emergency situations; and
- The Management of the Company are fully committed to do all that is necessary to achieve a safe and environment for its employees both on board as well as ashore. Employee participation in identifying and promoting measures for continuous improvement of safety at work environment is actively promoted and is reflected by the “No Blame Policy” adopted by the company to encourage reporting of near accidents and hazardous occurrences.
The Company will focus on the global perspective of its environmental activities that have major impact on the environment. These aspects are related to impact on the marine environment, global warming, acidification and production of garbage/waste. Activities and aspects shall be revised and if necessary replaced frequently to ensure continuous improvement of the management system and the Company’s performance.
Drug and Alcohol Policy
It is the Company policy to prevent any vessel within the fleet from being operated by persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The Company prohibits the unlawful possession and handling of drugs on any vessel and on Company premises or when conducting Company business. Any employee found to be in breach of this policy shall be dismissed.
All office and shipboard personnel are required to support and contribute to the effective implementation of the Company Policy. The SQE Manager is responsible for ensuring that the defined SQE Management system is implemented and maintained at every level in the Company, and reports directly to the Chairman.
This policy has been endorsed by the Management of the Company and approved by the Chairman of the Company.
