Environmental Awareness
The safety of the crew and the vessels as well as the quality of the products GNMTC delivers are crucial and GNMTC is committed to continuously develop its systems and skills using a proactive approach, ensuring that all employees of GNMTC are committed to safety and quality in every task.
Safety incidents are continuously monitored and analyzed, which has led to a reduction in the number of incidents. This remains a top priority area for GNMTC.
Officers and crews are continuously trained through various courses and seminars to improve their safety and quality awareness.
Environmental Protection Policy
As the protection of the marine environment is of the utmost importance to the Company, environmental protection has the highest possible priority.
It is the Company’s policy to adopt sufficient protection measures to avoid damage to the environment, in particular to the marine environment, to humans, to wild life and to property.
Some of the cargoes as well as the oil products and the chemicals used in the operation of the vessels may, if treated incorrectly, be harmful to humans and/or the environment.
To ensure the correct treatment and handling of the products and to comply with internationally recognized rules and regulations, detailed instructions and procedures are always available and updated onboard the Company’s vessels.
In assessing the risks of the possible environmental impact from the various environmental aspects of shipping, the following has been identified as the areas of primary concern:
- Oil and associated products
- Chemicals
- Noxious liquid substances
- Dangerous goods
- Garbage
- Ballast water
- Cargo vapor
- Halons and CFC’s
- TBT based anti-fouling paint
The Safety Management System is continuously updated in order to prevent pollution, during normal operations and in case of accidents, caused by any of the above sources
